Welcome to Vaishnavi Foundation

Helping each other can make world better

‘Vaishnavi Foundation’ is one of the leading Youth Base, registered Non-Government & Not-For-Profit Charitable Organization registered under Societies Registration Act working for the welfare of the people of different underprivileged sections of society by various means.

The aim is to see that no human being is deprived of his basic needs because of poverty. The organization also seeks to support and nurture the talents who cannot avail of proper facilities due to their harsh conditions.

Our organization is distinct in terms of volunteers as our organization is a youth-run NGO. Most of the volunteers and core-team members of our NGO comprise young people. This promotes leadership skills as we give complete independence in decision-making to our volunteers, which is not catered to by any other organization. We try to inculcate a sense of purpose and insight in the young minds and this gives them a head start in facing the turmoil of tomorrow.

People are frequently asking some questions from us

One in three of the world’s malnourished children live in India. Our children are going to school hungry. They suffer from lack of concentration and reduced cognitive development, directly leading to their dropping out of school. Join us in our mission to prevent hunger diminishing our children’s opportunities to succeed.

Why is child malnutrition a pressing issue in India?

The State of the World's Children Report 2019 by UNICEF reckons that 69% of deaths among children under five years of age can be attributed to malnutrition in India. It also estimates that every second child up to five years of age is affected by some form of malnutrition. That is just an indication of the level of risk children in this country face. Malnutrition is not just about hunger, but about the nutritional quality of the food they consume to ensure physical and mental development.

Why do persons with disabilities face discrimination in India?

Persons with disabilities in India are subject to multiple deprivations and limited opportunities as their care is both challenging and expensive. Their families and caregivers also go through a lot of stress and hardship while coping with the situation, leading to grave discriminatory practices towards the differently abled. Often if the person is born to a low-income family, looking after them also becomes a burden - and they are either abandoned or neglected.

Why do senior citizens in India face abuse and are often abandoned?

A lot has to do with an increasing aging population, the breakdown of joint families in favour of nuclear ones and rapid urbanisation. In disadvantaged communities, where families struggle to make ends meet, sadly the older generation - seen as unproductive and a burden - pays the price and suffers abuse, neglect and abandonment.

Why does this mission focus specifically on girl child education?

Reasons like gender discrimination, lack of menstrual healthcare and early marriage leads to girls in rural and poor families, who prefer educating their sons for financial reasons, dropping out of school. This is why 40% are out of school by the time they reach adolescence, doing household chores instead of preparing for further studies and gainful employment. An educated girl benefits society, as she is more likely to make sure her children, including daughters, are schooled. This affects many development indices, including health and economic progress.
